Slide background Temple Programs
Going back to the history of Bharatanatyam, dance recitals and performances actually started from the temple. Sculptures made in the ancient age of 4,000 BC are the source of the mudras and postures we use in dance today.
According to tradition, when a dancer wants to showcase her skills, her first performance being the Arangetram was done in the temple. In today’s world, living in a metropolitan city, it is difficult to keep up these traditions.
At Shree Paavitra (SPAA), we have had great opportunities to perform at various temples before the deity. Be the holy Chidambaram Temple or even a temple in Mumbai where we were invited by the trustees to organize a program during the Navaratri Festival.
Here, we have an annual tradition of performing in a temple with many artists and musicians every October. This is a blissful experience and a great honor as artists. In the past, as students and dancers we have performed at Chidambaram, Tanjavur, Kumbakonam, Melattur and also at various temples in Mumbai.
9 Day Navarathri Festival at Bhajana Samaj, Mumbai
Apart from Shree Paavitra Arts Academy’s own dancers we have invited many artists from various institutions as well. An electric atmosphere is created for devotees while they give their offerings through these divine art forms.
